According to some, Paula would have vanished into thin air under torrential rain, but there are witnesses who confirmed that they had given her a lift from Carson City towards Sacramento, the twin city of Manila, where both the victim and the Zodiac Killer and Alphabet Killer George Hill Hodel lived. Given the double initials of the victim, the Rosicrucian Satanist Hodel would be the most suitable person to commit the crime, even more so if in retaliation "Pope" is also the head of the Catholic Church. It must be said, however, that once Paula got out of the vehicle she was seen conversing with some bikers, most likely from the Satanist Hell's Angels gang. Following the testimony of the terminally ill William Pfeifer against his gang in prison at the Alameda prison in Oakland in exchange for freedom, the police went (albeit only a month later) to the ranch of vice-president George J. "Baby Huey" Wethern and his wife Helen near Ukiah, finding the bodies of Thomas Shepard Shull and Charles Baker, club members killed in January 1971 by strangulation after taking LSD, the CIA's MKULTRA drug. In seguito alla testimonianza del malato terminale William Pfeifer contro la propria banda in carcere alla prigione di Alameda ad Oakland in cambio della libertà, infatti la polizia si è recata (anche se soltanto un mese dopo) presso il ranch del vice-presidente George J. “Baby Huey” Wethern e della moglie Helen nei pressi di Ukiah, ritrovando i corpi di Thomas Shepard Shull e di Charles Baker, membri del club uccisi a gennaio del 1971 per strangolamento dopo aver assunto LSD, la droga dell’MKULTRA della CIA. Il 1° novembre 1972 sono quindi stati arrestati William “Zorro” Mitten di Alameda, Edward “Junior” Carter, Chester “Festus” Green e William John Moran ed è stato rinvenuto un ulteriore corpo in un pozzo abbandonato, inizialmente ritenuto quello di Paula (fonte: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/620187689/ ), ma poi identificato in Patricia Ann McNight, uccisa con un colpo alla testa (fonte: https://newspaperarchive.com/ukiah-daily-journal-apr-09-1973-p-1/ ). Secondo https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/63420912/ ,Patricia aveva assistito ad un omicidio o qualcosa del genere. Dopo aver tentato di accecarsi con delle matite negli occhi e di strangolare la moglie in prigione, Wethern e la moglie sono stati assolti per testimoniare contro la gang ed essendo inseriti nel programma di protezione testimoni, ciò non gli ha comunque impedito di scrivere un libro nel 2008 sulla storia dell’organizzazione, rivelando anche dei legami importanti con lo spacciatore Owsley Stanley. Tornando a Paula, per quanto possa essere stato assitito dai biker nell’operazione, “Zorro” il Vendicatore Hodel aveva in mente una sola località in cui occultare il corpo per contrappasso e trattasi della Pope Valley, nei pressi del lago Berryessa, luogo che richiama l’assalto del 27 settembre 1969 da parte di Zodiac. In questo modo, si ottiene che la “P” compare sia nelle iniziali della vittima che nella località di occultamento del corpo, Alphabet Killer style per l’appunto.
