Hodel may have seen the film on his way to Paris to visit his friend Man Ray. Si vede chiaramente la mano di George Hill Hodel nel pianificare il delitto, dato che dopo l’omicidio di Joan Elspeth Schell ad Ann Arbor del 1968 doveva seguire quello di Mary Scott l’anno successivo. Quell’uomo sarebbe stato ucciso da 4/5 persone, in alternativa era un suicidio più astuto della storia. Il libro di Prather “Dance with the dead” è stato trovato sul sedile del taxi di Ray Davis, vittima di Hodel nel 1962. Il fattore Davis ricompare anche nel selezionare la vittima successiva, ossia Elaine Devis di Pleasant Hill, inoltre nella banda di Charles Manson c’era Bruce Davis, nella squadra di Ann Arbor c’era Arnold Davis ed il capo della polizia di Los Angeles era Ed Davis) . John Davis era invece colui che aveva scoperto il cadavere di Annie Chapman nella vicenda di Jack lo squartatore. Tornando al caso Scott, il modus operandi di spogliare la vittima, di stuprarla e di strangolarla è tipico dei re degli strangolatori, ossia Peter Howard Denton (strangolatore di Boston e di Ann Arbor, noto killer di studentesse) e di Rodney Alcala, che firma il delitto dato che esiste la missione di San Diego de Alcala. A distanza di anni viene però arrestato nel 2020 l’ex membro della marina militare John Sipos, difeso dall’avvocato Brooke LaFrance. Sipos significa “pifferaio” e non si può non notare che anche costui come il pifferaio magico di Tucson Charles Schmid sia stato incastrato dalle sette esoteriche. Essendo Sipos del Pennsylvania, la scelta era necessaria per capire che il delitto di Mary Scott anticipava quello di Betsy Aardsma in Pennsylvania e ciò spiega anche la parte della lettera di Zodiac in riferimento al prendere di mira una vedova di San Josè. In base al film francese “Golden Widow (Vedova d’oro)” del 1969 , la vedova era legata sentimentalmente ad uno scultore, così come successo fra lo scultore William Spencer la moglie Lena, con Spencer che era stato sospettato di essere l’assassino di Betsy, veicolando però durante gli interrogatori messaggi volti a capire che il killer era Denton. Hodel potrebbe aver visto il film recandosi a Parigi a trovare l’amico Man Ray. L’ultima ipotesi è Josè Julio Sarria, nativo di San Francisco dichiarato omosessuale che voleva fare l’insegnante ed aveva un passato militare. Sarria si era autoproclamato “vedova Norton” (in onore del protettore del Messico Joshua Norton), con Norton che era una delle vie chiave nell’analizzare il delitto di Elizabeth Short commesso da Hodel e Fred Sexton, residente in Messico.
